My Groom Speech
How I Started My Groom Speech
They say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I guess I never really knew just how important my groom speech would be, until my fiance and I began obsessively planning the ‘BIG’ day.
If the truth be known, I just kept putting it off until about a week before the wedding, when I finally woke up and realised that groom speeches were unavoidable. And then the panic set in big time!
The moral to this story is, don’t make the same mistake I did. Give yourself plenty of time and don’t sweat it.
When you start out with your groom speach, the task ahead may appear insurmountable. There are so many other wedding issues to deal with, like the ceremony and vows that it is difficult to find the time to write an effective wedding speech let alone consider standing up in front of a audience and giving the performance of your life.
As my wedding date got nearer and nearer, I considered all the angles for funny, motivational and even charming groom speeches, but it just wasn’t happening. Eventually, I realised I should start jotting down notes as thoughts and events came to me.
I now know there are better ways to write the groom speech, but this was at least a start. It was then that I also began to consider other solutions, like online guides and prompts, to structure the wedding speech as a story and jotting down information about Lisa, my bride to be, as I went.
You know the sort of things, like where and when we met and how our romance blossomed, etc. It really did help put our romance into context and lay the foundations for a closer future together.
If I gave you some advice at this stage, it would be not to worry too much about the content of your groom speech (especially groom speech jokes). The best thing to do is make a start, any kind of start, well in advance of the wedding.
Just begin with the note taking and you will soon find yourself on the path to the perfect groom speech.
