The one thing we both decided upon was not to spoil the surprise and write our speeches together. However, Lisa did think it a good idea to discuss the broader direction that our speeches head so we were singing from the same hymn sheet as it were.

The Bride and Groom Speech – Who should say what?

When it comes to the wedding speech, even though you might want to keep the contents a surprise it helps to compare note so that there is no repetition of the content. This goes for groom speeches and father of the bride speeches but particularly the Brides speech. This is why it maybe a good idea to discuss at least the outline of the bride and groom speech with your better half!

It is not essential though for the bride and groom speech to be separate. Maybe only one of you want to the the speech or you may want to so a double act. It needs to be decided upon early enough before taking the next step.

Working out your Bride Groom speech

Once these details are worked out and she is planning on making a speech, it is a good idea to ask her if she is writing the speech herself. The reason is that you both run the risk is telling the same stories or having the same ideas for the speech.

It would therefore be good to compare notes so that you cover different topics. another idea is to both cover the  story of how you both got together but from differing points of view. This could add a bit of excitement to the bridegroom speech and be quite funny.

Planning these wedding speech ideas together isn’t often done due to keeping the contents of your groom speech secret, but if it is done well, it can prove really inspiring. In the end it’s really down to you both to decide how you want your bridegroom speech to go but it could turn a great day into a really memorable day.
